History:

  1. With a heritage stretching back over 150 years, we are Europe’s second largest specialist arts university.
  2. Formed through the merger of The Surrey Institute of Art & Design and the Kent Institute of Art & Design, we have campuses in Farnham, Epsom, Canterbury and Rochester. We      were awarded full university status by the Privy Council in 2008.
  3. Dame Zandra Rhodes was installed as our first Chancellor in 2010.
  4. In 2015 we will move into the performing arts for the first time in collaboration with Farnham Maltings.


Location and Transport:

  1. Our four campuses in Farnham, Epsom, Rochester and Canterbury are located within easy reach of London and the South East via road and rail.
  2. Additional courses run at Hampton Court Palace’s Royal School of Needlework and Maidstone TV Studios.


Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate:

  1. BA (Hons) Architecture – 320 UCAS points.
  2. BA (Hons) Film Production – 280 UCAS points.
  3. BA (Hons) 4 Year courses (Year 0 entry) – 160 UCAS points.
  4. All other BA (Hons) courses – 220 UCAS points.


WHO IS A UNIVERSITY OF BOLTON UNDERGRADUATE?

The University of Bolton focuses on preparing its students for their professional futures, but there is no typical University of Bolton undergraduate student. Undergraduates here are studying for a wide range of qualifications in different academic and vocational subjects, they are of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. Some are studying full-time, others part-time.


WHAT ABOUT FURTHER EDUCATION (FE)?

The University of Bolton offers a range of pre-degree and FE courses including access and foundation qualifications that prepare students to study with us at undergraduate level. Our FE students have access to the same range of services and facilities as our undergraduates and benefit from the enriched learning opportunities available at the university.


POSTGRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

The University of Bolton offers a variety of postgraduate, professional development and short courses in a wide range of subjects. The University has a dynamic postgraduate and professional community and a culture of excellence in teaching and research. We have an enviable record for graduate employment.

The University is renowned for its links to business and industry, and for supporting students who combine study with their career. It is possible to study on a full-time or part-time basis, and some courses are available by distance learning. Our quality, flexible courses can fit around work and other commitments. Many of our part-time and short courses are taught in the evening. A range of courses also offer the relevant professional accreditation. The University offers a growing number of short courses which can be studied as professional development, or as a ‘stand-alone’ course. Many are directly linked to workplace skills needed in specific sectors, for example, transport. Some courses require no prior experience of work or study in that area, for example, Adobe Photoshop.

For anyone wanting to try out a new subject the University offers associate study courses. These taster courses, in subjects such as creative writing, can lead on the degree courses where they can be then be studied in greater depth.

The range of courses continues to expand in response to the requirements of employers and students. Courses range from applied criminology to transport management.
